Kowloon West (KW) Regional Crime Headquarters and Sham Shui Po District have just jointly held a workshop on the problems posed by apartments with small cubicles in Sham Shui Po, for 90 officers from Special Duty Squads within KW Region. At the experience-sharing workshop chaired by Senior Superintendent Leung Ka-ming of KW, Sham Shui Po District Operations Officer Jacob Ko, and Assistant District Operations Officer Harbour Chan, outlined the problems arising from the proliferation of "multi-cubicle apartments", including prostitution activities. They also shared with the participants their experiences of tackling the problems by pulling the resources of the Home Affairs Department, Buildings Department and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department during an inter-departmental operation last June. In addition, the speakers also explained the charters and legal authorities of various departments, as well as the potential problems that might be encountered during enforcement actions. During the 90-minute experience-sharing session, both the speakers and participants actively exchanged views on field operations, evidence gathering and departmental liaison. At the closing, KW Crime (Administration & Support) Superintendent Ted Tsang re-iterated that tackling vices was one of the prime operational focuses in KW Region, and encouraged Special Duty Squads in districts and Region to maintain closer liaison and communication so as to provide a "safer and cleaner" living environment for the public.
