Police Carnival in aid of charity |

Assistant Commissioner (Training) David Thomas officially announced on October 13 that the Force and The Community Chest would jointly organise a "Police Community Carnival 2004" on November 20 and 21 to raise funds for charity and to foster a close relationship between the Force and the community. Speaking on details of the carnival at a meet-the-media session, Mr Thomas said it provided a good opportunity for the Force to realise its mission of serving the community while upholding the rule of law. "We believe in repaying the society and we do so by participating in charity. And in the process, we are building a stronger team spirit and we share positive values of selflessness, empathy and care, as well as fairness, honesty and integrity. "We aim to present a broad image of the Force, quite apart from our law enforcement function, and we are keen to let the community know about our mission and values, our services and future role in society," he added. A variety of programmes will be staged during the two-day carnival, including Wushu performances, police dog shows and a "celebrity in concert". There will also be an exhibition to introduce the various aspects of Police work and game booths for the public. Participants will also have the opportunity to know more about officers' off-duty activities through a range of cultural performances. The carnival events will take place at the Police Training School in Wong Chuk Hang and the adjacent Aberdeen Sports Ground. Carnival admission tickets at $50 each are available at 22 Police Community Relations Offices and office of The Community Chest. A set of four Police Figurines priced at $30 and raffle tickets at $10 each are also on sale at all branches of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) and at the carnival. Proceeds from sale of tickets and souvenirs will go to the Chest for charity. Campaign Committee Co-chairman of The Community Chest, Mr Lawrence Yu, thanked Bank of China (Hong Kong) for their sponsorship, which will enable The Community Chest to allocate all the proceeds, without deduction of expenses, to the 141 social welfare agencies it supports.
