On November 30, the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Headquarters became the venue of this year's Operation Santa Claus - an annual event co-sponsored by RTHK and the South China Morning Post to raise funds for 12 charity organisations and to bring season's joy to the needy.

The event was well supported by various units, including the Special Duties Unit, PTU Cadre Course 4/2004, the training "Foxtrot" Company, PTU HQ teams, and representatives from four PTU Regional Companies. Contributions have also been received from all the other PTU Regional Companies.

PTU Commandant Suen Kwai-leung kicked off the competition, which featured a series of sporting events and challenges, including pulling a 9.5 tones Saxon armoured vehicle along the drill square, the infamous "Redman Rumble" - simulated combat between officers dressed in protective suits - and the "Unit Commanders' Assault Course" which marked an exciting conclusion of the competition. The day culminated with a charity auction, which managed to raise $14,280.

As the event drew to a close, the Commandant praised the efforts and esprit de corps displayed by the participants, particularly the organising team - Foxtrot (3/2004). To-date, PTU has raised a record of $122,864, which will surely bring warmth to the needy over the winter.
