About 5,800 members of the Auxiliary Police and their families competed in various events and enjoyed a fun-filled day when they participated in the 4th Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Sports and Family Day earlier this month. To make the events more interesting and enable sportsmen to show their athletic skills, basketball shooting and indoor rowing were introduced this year, replacing badminton and ping-pong, which had been held in the past three years. Many members and their families took part in the indoor rowing in response to this year's theme of "The Quality Life of Family". In the invitation events for disciplined forces, elite sportsmen from the Force, Immigration, Correctional Services, Fire Services, Customs and Excise, Civil Aid Service and St John Ambulance Brigade vied with one and other for the titles of tug-of-war, basketball shooting and indoor rowing. Though competition was tough and exciting, friendship came first for the players. Other than sports, game stalls, performances by Police Dog Unit and Auxiliary Police Band, as well as exhibitions by Small Boat Unit, Police Tactical Unit, Road Safety Unit of Traffic Kowloon West, Police Orienteering Club and Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Association had enlivened the annual gathering and proved very popular. The sports meet culminated with Kowloon East winning the overall Regional Championship with 320 marks. Prizes were presented by Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai, Director of Immigration Lai Tung-kwok, Fire Services Sports and Welfare Club Chairman Ng Bong-loy, Commissioner of St. John Ambulance Brigade Chan Cheuk-sang and Commandant of Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Kwok Chi-shun.
