More than 200 officers participated in the annual Police Cross Country Championships, which took place at the Fanling Golf Club in sunny yet cool and dry conditions last month.

An unforeseen site problem had necessitated postponement of the event and a new course of approximately six kilometres for men and four kilometres for ladies, which nevertheless remained to be looping round green fairways, along a dusty horse-riding trail and through overgrown bush.

Senior Inspector Louis Tam, Hon Treasurer of Police Athletics Club (PAC), briefed all athletes before Central District Commander Chau Kwok-leung officiated at the start of the race.

The winner of the Ladies was Woman Senior Inspector Tsang Chiu-tong of Tsz Wan Shan Division, finishing in 20'03". Closely following the Ladies winner was Men's Open winner, Senior Inspector Andy Naylor of Kowloon West Emergency Unit, who finished in 23'43". Sergeant Leung Yat of Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQ) won the Men's Senior in 25'35", while Chief Inspector Ian Strange of PTU HQ won the Men's Veteran I.

PTU HQ once again carried off the Specialist & Training Units' Team Trophy whilst New Territories North, New Territories South PTU A and Hong Kong Island won the Other Formation Team Trophies as champion, first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

At the end of the race, New Territories North Regional Commander Steve Chandler and Tai Po District Commander Ng Kam-wing congratulated the winners and presented the trophies.

The race results and some photos have been put on PAC's webpage on POINT.
