Police boxers dominate Annual Boxing Smoker!

In an absolutely great night of spectacular boxing held last month, the Force's boxers managed to win five out of the six matches put on. Only the lone female fighter, Traffic Warden Joan Ho Lai-ching of Tsuen Wan District, narrowly lost, after putting on a very gutsy performance against hard punching Lee Hoi-yan.

In an awesome display of speed and power punching, Police Constable Edwin Chan Ying-wai of Crime New Territories North outpointed an equally classy Yip Ho-chun of the famous James Yuen Boxing Club. It was then the turn of Police Constable Wong Yuk-po of Airport Security Unit to turn on the fireworks, stopping his opponent from the Immigration Department in the first round, after delivering a series of wicked body shots to his opponent, causing him to crumble to the canvass.

In another exciting bout, Auxiliary Police Constable Joe Tsui Ho-yin of Mong Kok District, narrowly outpointed a very game David Fidess of Canada, and this was followed by an awesome display of controlled aggression by Police Constable Adam Tsang Wai-kwong of Tai Po Division, when he outpointed the highly respected Chan Sin-man, also of the James Yuen Boxing Club, picking up the award for "Best Fighter of the Night" on the way.

The final fight of the evening was a Police Championship clash in which Senior Inspector Mark Mak Man-yue of VIP Protection Unit pounded out a hard fought win, in a real crowd pleaser, over Police Constable Poon Chi-sang of Emergency Unit New Territories North. In so doing, SIP Mak become the first police officer in the history of the Police Boxing Club to successfully defend his championship title.

The evening was the usual hugely enjoyable affair and was graciously presided over this year by Director of Operations Peter Yam Tat-wing. Many in the capacity audience commented very favourably on the high standard of boxing displayed by police fighters on the night and this bodes well for those officers who will be selected to represent the Force at the Police and Fire Games later this year.
