The crew of MSDIV PL 83 saved six fishermen minutes before their vessel sank in heavy fog off Bluff Head in the early morning of March 28. Patrolling south of the Territory in visibility of less than 100 metres, PL 83 received a report of a collision between two vessels off Bluff Head from RCCC MAR at 7:54 am, and located one of the vessels, a local fishing vessel, six minutes later. The vessel was taking in water rapidly with her bow submerged in the waters and six crewmembers clinging to the stern deck, waiting for help. They were immediately taken on board PL 83, less than one minute before the vessel went down. None of the crew was hurt. Ten minutes later, PL 83 located the other vessel, a steel hull Mainland trading vessel, in the vicinity, only with damage to the starboard bow.
