Three new records were set during the recent Dowman Road Race, which was held in a fine morning at Pak Tam Chung Country Park, attracting more than 1,600 runners, both serving and retired discipline and civilian colleagues.

The first runner to return was Senior Inspector Andy Naylor who broke his own record with a fast time of 40 minutes 13 seconds in Men's Open category. Station Sergeant Lo Wai-keung set a record of 46 minutes 56 seconds for Men's Veteran III category and Women Police Constable Wong Siu-ping 49 minutes 39 seconds for Women's Senior.

Nearly all runners completed the 12-Km course within the demanding time limit of 90 minutes. The Overall Team Champion for "Specialist Units" was clinched by Airport District and "Other Formations" by Criminal Intelligence Bureau.

The success of the race marked the second year Police Athletics Club (PAC) enlisting volunteers from serving Force members and other police sport clubs in organising force-wide athletics events. Tributes were paid to the Police Cycling Club, Police Football Referees Club and Hong Kong Adventure Corps for assisting in organising the race.

As a new initiative to improve the efficiency of handling the tedious work of processing voluminous entries and race results arising from a growing participation in the race, PAC had introduced the use of online registration on its new website at hkpac.com for the first time. This web facility is complete with new software for processing race results. It has proved very useful in reducing manual work among the organising committee members and has been extended to other force-wide athletics events organised by PAC. Entries for the upcoming Police Track and Field Athletics Championships will be processed through online registration.

Dates of other PAC events for the year are as follows: -

Henry Shield Relay: Tuesday, 4 October 2005

Dowman Road Race 2006: Saturday, 4 February 2006

The annual Cross-country Boxed Race has been cancelled this year because the venue schedule allocated by the Fanling Golf Club will be too close to the World Trade Organisation's Sixth Ministerial Conference.
