Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch has introduced a new website, "Financial Helppage", for officers to retrieve through POINT information on prudent financial management, Force policy and strategies in management of police indebtedness and services provided within and outside the Force to officers in financial difficulties.

Financial management information available includes Force training package, money saving programme, personal financial budgeting programme, sources of VCDs of financial seminars and a problem gambling seminar held in 2004.

According to Acting Chief Superintendent (Personnel Services and Staff Relations), Mr Wong Wai-fung, "Financial Helppage" sustains the Force's strategy on continual education by providing quick reference of information on financial prudence to officers.

"Of course, officers in financial difficulties can now obtain the required information and advice from the website as an alternative to the one-stop service provided through the "Financial Helpline" at 2804-2803," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Wong disclosed that the number of officers with unmanageable debts dropped by one-third from 2003 to 2004 and new cases had been decreasing, a healthy trend since the second half of 2002.

"We are pleased to note such downward trend which is a result of the collective effort from all management levels in the prevention, education and early identification of officers who are in debt. However, the 'lesser is the better' is the ultimate goal we are striving for. To achieve this, we are looking forward to the continual concerted and persevering effort of Force members at all levels," he noted.
