Following his success at the Hong Kong International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Open Shooting Competition 2004-5, Superintendent (Auxiliary) Edgar Yang has taken the Overall Individual Championship at the first Police Pistol Combat (PPC) Open Competition. The PPC open competition, organised by the Hong Kong Rifle Association, was held on April 24 at Kau Wah Keng Range, with over 100 shooters from shooting clubs from the Hong Kong Police, Hong Kong Auxiliary Police, Customs & Excise, Correctional Services, ICAC, Fire Services, Immigration Department and the former Hong Kong Regiment. Together with shooters from four civilian shooting clubs - the Hong Kong Gun Club, China Gun Club, Paradise Pistol Shooting Club and Hong Kong Rifle Association - the disciplined service shooters competed in the standard pistol and revolver categories, and vied for the overall best of the best title. As well as the pistol individual championship, Mr Yang also clinched the overall championship after beating by one point, with his 4-1/2-inch pistol, the 1st runner-up from Correctional Services Department, who shot with a 6-inch revolver. These two titles also earned for Edgar two 9mm pistols by courtesy of the event sponsor. The PPC event originates from the US and UK. It is also sanctioned by the national rifle associations of America and UK, and is recognised worldwide. The firearms used for this competition are confined to the standard side arms used by police forces over the world. Currently, both the Chinese Security and the Hong Kong Police have adopted the competition as the standard competition format for their force-wide annual shooting championships.
