Kowloon West (KW) Region has been sparing no efforts in grappling with the problems of pickpocket in Yau Tsim and Mong Kok districts. Accordingly, the Regional Crime Unit 1 of KW has been tasked with cracking the organised nature and ever-changing cross-district modus operandi of the criminals.

For effectively combating the pickpocket problems, Crime KW held an experience-sharing seminar in Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station earlier this month for frontline officers from various units in KW Region, including Task Forces.

In view of its close geographical relations with Hong Kong Island Region and Railway District, KW Region also invited officers there to attend the experience-sharing session.

The seminar started with Yau Tsim District Commander Kevin Woods informing the participants that pickpocket was a wide spread quick cash crime. "Effectively tackling this crime would make people feel more safe on the streets, particularly the tourists!" he stressed.

Following Mr Woods' opening address, the participants had animated discussions and exchanges on the characteristics of pickpocket gangs and the countering strategies that have to be adopted.

Suggestions were raised on setting up a mechanism for exchanging intelligence and passing information on target criminals and data to districts and divisions.
