Bankers thank EDIST
Representatives from 18 member banks of the Management Committee-Card Authorisation System in PRC recently called at Eastern District Crime Headquarters and paid tribute to officers of the District Crime Squad 2 for neutralising a syndicate involved in credit card fraud.
Between August 2004 and July 2005, the syndicate submitted 34 credit card applications to a number of banks with false supporting documents. Having fraudulently obtained the credit cards, the syndicate successfully made cash withdrawals and purchases of valuables to more than $630,000. The squad took over this fraud case after the banks had jointly made a report to the police.
Following extensive enquiries and investigations, as well as analysis of the fraudulent transactions, the squad arrested the mastermind and two local residents, and seized a large amount of stolen properties inside a residential unit in Tseung Kwan O.
