"It has been a trying week. But, thanks to the concerted efforts of Hong Kong people, we can all be proud of what we have accomplished. By staging a smoothly run Ministerial Conference and witnessing its success in Hong Kong, we have demonstrated to the world again that Hong Kong is, indeed, Asia's world city," he added.
Mr Tsang patted officers on the back when he paid a visit to the Catering and Support Centre set up at the Harbour Road Sports Centre in the afternoon of December 18.
He noted that the officers had a very hard time doing everything possible to protect life and property and maintain law and order, as well as to deal with unexpected mobs with great restraint.
He commended the officers for using the minimum and most appropriate force in controlling various situations.
Speaking to the media at the closing of HKMC, the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, who is also Chairman of HKMC, said: "I want to condemn in the most uncompromising terms the violent behaviour last night of the group of protesters who tried to take over the streets of our city. They did not. Our Police men and women are to be commended for their tolerance and restraint and professionalism."
