Vision Possible is a new youth initiative launched this school year by Lantau District, aiming at addressing youth crime by collaborating with stakeholders in promoting a healthy lifestyle among new form one students on a long-term basis. The Vision Possible project is being jointly run by Lantau District, two local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely, the Neighbourhood Advice Action Council and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Tung Chung Integrated Service Center, and secondary schools in the district, with the support of the Islands District Fight Crime Committee, the Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary President and local leaders. The project carries the slogan of "Vision Possible - Creating an Optimistic View of Life Journey". The Launching Ceremony of the "Vision Possible cum Inter-school Fight Crime Competition Day" was held recently at the Tung Chung Ho Yu College, attracting a big attendance of up to 2,000 people, including students, their guardians, teachers, local NGOs and representatives from the Education and Manpower Bureau. Apart from the exciting inter-school competition, the "Robotcop" was in attendance and Police dogs were put through their paces. Speaking at the ceremony, Lantau District Commander Chau Cho-kei appointed nine Police Volunteers from his District as "School Fight-Crime Advisers". Meanwhile, Islands DFCC Chairman, Mr Lam Kit-sing, also appointed 14 JPC leaders as "Fight-Crime Ambassadors" in schools. Mr Chau emphasised that Vision Possible is a community programme targeting the youth. Adopting a multi-agency approach, a voluntary working group had been formed to organise a host of activities for the new Form One students in the district. The activities would include outward-bound training, training on discipline, foot drill and community volunteer services, visits to senior citizens and extra-curricular activities. Through those activities youngsters could develop self-discipline and gain more knowledge about society. Though being introduced for the first year, Vision Possible has already gained the full support of the local community. "I hope this project can be introduced each year for the benefit of all the youngsters on Lantau Island," said Mr Chau.
