Police officers have earned the praise and support of all citizens by displaying a high degree of devotion and professionalism in discharging their duties during the recent World Trade Organisation's Hong Kong Ministerial Conference (HKMC).

This was stated by a member of the Constitutional Development Task Force, Ms Elsie Leung, while reviewing a passing-out parade at the Police Training School on December 24.

The officers' performance had further enhanced the Force's reputation as one of the Asia's finest, she added.

Ms Leung was also of the view that the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong relied to a considerable extent on the integrity and excellence of the Force, which upheld the rule of law.

"Police work nowadays is without doubt among the most difficult, trying and complex of jobs. It is a job, which requires skill, determination, integrity and an abundance of common sense.

"You will be expected to demonstrate moral fortitude in performing your duties. You will need sharpness of response and good judgment. You will also need stamina and physical courage in moments of crisis," she told the graduating officers.

Ms Leung believed that the officers would endeavour to do their best to serve the community and maintain the good reputation of the Force.

"If you make a dedicated effort, you will be able to surmount all the challenges ahead. Not only will you find much satisfaction in your work, but also support and trust from the public," she noted.

A total of 10 probationary inspectors and 173 recruit constables passed out on December 24 after completing highly demanding and professional training.
