A five-member Police Team shined again at the Hong Kong Powerlifting and Weightlifting Association's recent Hong Kong Benchpress Championships held at the Mongkok Indoor Games Hall, with each member taking first or second place in five events. Though only being given a short notice of the championships by the Association, thus lacking sufficient time for preparations, the Force entered five lifters in weight classes ranging from 60kg to 100 kg. Among the five players, Detective Senior Inspector David Donnelly, from RCU HKI, set a new Hong Kong record in the Masters category when he lifted 165kg to win the 100kg category. He also earned the honour of being "the best lifter" with the heaviest lift of the competition. Besides Mr Donnelly, the performances of the other four members, all from Lei Muk Shue, were no less impressive. In the 60kg weight category, PC Lau Suen-chun, from Sub-unit 5, lifted 90kg to take first place in the Masters age category. In the 67.5kg weight category, Auxiliary PC Luk Chi-ming, from Sub-unit 5, lifted 125kg to take first place in the open category. Senior Inspector Chu Man-cheung, from Sub-unit 7, took second place in the 75kg weight category with a 130kg lift, while PC Wong Wai-kwan, from Task Force 3, took second place in the 90kg weight category with a 135kg lift. Over 50 lifters competed in various categories before their families and friends who filled up all spectator stands. The next event on the calendar is the Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships scheduled to take place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on April 8.
