As well as e-mails, letters, banners and complimentary cards, tributes to the Force over the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference have also taken the form of contributions to the Police Welfare Fund. Among the donors, Maxim's Caterers Limited, a Hong Kong catering group, has generously donated $1 million to the fund. The Chairman of Maxim's Caterers, Mr James T Wu, and Managing Director, Mr Michael Wu, presented a cheque to this amount to Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai at PHQ on December 22, last year. Speaking at the cheque presentation, Mr James Wu said Force members had been working very hard in maintaining law and order and protecting life and property. In particular, their performance during HKMC was creditable and appropriate in terms of planning, preparation and execution. "On behalf of Maxim's, I would like to extend our thanks, support and encouragement for the police's outstanding performance during HKMC. I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise police officers' selflessness and tolerance. All members of the public, like us, will continue to support the Hong Kong Police," Mr Wu added. Thanking the catering group for its generous donation, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai said: "Shouldering the responsibilities for the security of HKMC was an enormous and formidable challenge for the police. Throughout planning, preparation and execution, every member of the Force worked in unison to ensure that the conference would be held smoothly, and law and order would be maintained. Though our mission was very tough, we're very glad that we have had the support and trust of the public." More public praise So far, the Force has received hundreds of emails, letters and fax messages, hailing officers' professionalism and restraint displayed during HKMC. Earlier, SAR government officials and former CP, Mr Tsang Yam-pui, had also sent complimentary letters to the Force.
