Question: "I joined the Civil Service in July 2000. Having passed the probationary period and obtained the qualification for permanent terms in July 2003, I joined the Civil Service Provident Fund (CSPF) Scheme. In the future, under what circumstances will I be eligible for the Government's contributions to the CSPF Scheme?"

Answer: There are three categories of Government's contribution to the CSPF scheme, namely mandatory, voluntary and special disciplined services contributions.

The mandatory contribution will be released to an officer under the following circumstances:

* at the age of 65; or

* early retirement and attainment of age 60; or

* permanent departure from HK; or

* death; or

* total incapacity.

Whilst the voluntary contribution will be vested if an officer:

* leaves the service on completion of 10 years service; or

* retires on reaching normal retirement age (i.e. age 55); or

* dies in service; or

* retires due to permanent incapacity.

The Special Disciplined Services Contribution will be fully vested if an officer is in a disciplined services rank/grade immediately before leaving the service and:

* retires on reaching normal retirement age (i.e. age 55); or

* dies in service; or

* retires due to permanent incapacity.
