Three senior inspectors from the Narcotics Bureau (NB) recently conducted a three-day "Drug Investigation Course" for around 100 officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Brunei Darussalam, at the invitation of the NCB Director, Mr Haji Abdul Majid Bin Managarshah.

The officers were SIPs Mak Pui-yuen, Yam Kam-fai and Kwok Siu-fai from the Divisions of Operation, Intelligence and Financial Investigation respectively, led by Chief Inspector Ko Shun-chi from the Operations Division.

In delivering the training course overseas for the first time, the NB officers strived to establish a strategic partnership with the NCB to deal with the changing drug trafficking trends and routes, and to meet the needs for closer co-operation. They also built up rapport with NCB officers and were given a warm reception by Mr Managarshah and his Deputy Director, both of whom also addressed the opening and closing of the course.

During the 3-day course, over 50 NCB officers attended each session and discussed the real cases in Brunei. At the invitation of Mr Managarshah, the NB officers also conducted an additional session on interrogation skills on the last day of the course.

Mr Managarshah also took the opportunity to brief the NB officers on the drug situation in Brunei, where synthetic-based drugs have replaced plant-based ones as the most widely abused drugs. The most prevalent drug is "Syabu" - crystal methamphetamine (ICE).

The training course provided a good opportunity for Hong Kong and Brunei to learn from each other and to forge closer ties.
