Convinced that prevention is better than detection and having carried out some studies, Kowloon East Regional Crime Unit 3B (RCU 3B KE), also known as Technology Crime Unit, recently held an anti-computer crime awareness seminar for teachers and students from 86 secondary schools in the region. Officer-in-charge of the Unit Eric Ho Chun-chung, who organised the seminar, said: "After having consulted the Technology Crime Division of Commercial Crime Bureau and the School Headmasters' Association, we're trying to discuss this interesting topic in an interactive manner with youngsters in the hope that they would understand more about computer crimes, the risks on the Internet and the price to pay for committing computer crimes." In his talk at the seminar, Detective Sergeant Cheung Siu-wai from the unit outlined the definition and types of computer crimes and emphasised the Force's determination and efforts to combat such crimes. He also cited real cases to illustrate police operational procedures, including planning, arrest, prosecution, and trial of criminals, such as hackers." The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students, guided by police officers and teachers, shared with one another the computer crime related issues they have come across. The unit has held more than 10 similar seminars for the teachers and students in Kowloon East Region.
