Around 520 officers and their families took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics held at the Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza on May 7.

Director of Personnel and Training Tsang Wai-hung was on hand to cheer on the Force runners, while New Territories North Regional Commander Cheung Siu-wah held the Torch and led the runners through the 3.5-km trail along the Shing Mun River in a sunny and breezy day.

The seven participating disciplined forces raised a total of $1.7 million for the Hong Kong Special Olympics. Of this sum, the Force accounted for more than $500,000.

The Information Systems Wing clinched the fund-raising formation championship, followed by Tai Po District and New Territories North Regional Headquarters as first and second runners-up respectively. In the individual sponsor category introduced for the run this year, the second place went to ACP Wong Fook-chuen and third place to CIP Chan Ngai-yu.

The Hong Kong Special Olympics extended appreciation to the Hong Kong Police Voluntary Service Team for sending out over 100 volunteers to provide logistic support in the run.
