Definition of HIO

Question: "I've undergone an operation and taken a total of 100 days' sick leave. Now I've almost fully recovered and returned to the police station to undertake some indoor work. I expect I can fully recover and resume full police duties within three months. Will I be indexed as a Health Impaired Officer (HIO) because of my sick leave?"

Answer: An officer taking long-term sick leave may not certainly be indexed as a Health Impaired Officer. He will be indexed only when medical evidence confirms that he suffers from body or mind infirmity to such an extent that he cannot perform full police duties within a reasonable period of time.
