At the invitation of the Police Association of China, Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai led an eight-member delegation of the Force to attend the first Symposium on Police Science in the Straits, Hong Kong and Macao, held in Shanghai from August 6 to 9. The delegation comprised representatives from the four Force staff associations. Representatives from the Immigration Department and the Department of Sociology of the University of Hong Kong were also present at the symposium. The other participants were representatives from various police societies and associations, as well as academics from the related disciplines. During the symposium, representatives from various police jurisdictions delivered dissertations on different domains of policing studies to enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of the police work in the jurisdictions. At the symposium, Force representatives To Chun-wai, Chau Cho-kei, Liu Kit-ming and Chung Kam-wa presented dissertations on "Police Training and Combating Cross-boundary Crimes", "Present Situation of Cross-boundary Criminal Activities between the Mainland and Hong Kong and Corresponding Combating Strategies" and "Public Relations Strategies of the Hong Kong Police Force in a New Century". Upon their return from Shanghai, the Force representatives donated to the Police Children's Education Trust all the fees they received for their presentations. Throughout the visit, the Force delegation was given a warm reception. On August 6, the Chairman of the Police Association of China, Mr Tian Qiyu, hosted a banquet for the delegation. As a result of the visit, the Force delegation members have obtained a better idea of the other representatives' police work, while networking and experience sharing among various associations have been enhanced.
