The Human Resources Branch of Personnel Wing recently conducted a briefing in PHQ to update police mentors on the Development Programme for Junior Officers with Potential, which was rolled out on August 1 this year.

The mentors have been appointed under the Programme to help groom mentees, who are junior police officers (JPOs). The mentors are mostly inspectorate officers who are acting as role models to inspire mentees to develop their careers.

The Programme aims at promoting and facilitating JPOs' continuous learning and career developments, and fostering a sense of belonging and esprit de corps within Formations. It puts emphasis on a partnership approach between the mentor and mentee.

The briefing drew a good attendance by over 200 mentors and over 20 Divisional Commanders or officers at an equivalent rank. Speaking at the opening of the briefing, Senior Superintendent (Human Resources) Hilton Chan stressed that the success of the Development Programme for Junior Police Officers with Potential hinged on the commitment and collaboration of all the key stakeholders. While the Force management endeavoured to create an environment conducive to junior officers' developments, the ultimate responsibility in the pursuit of knowledge and personal career goals remained squarely with individual junior officers, he added.

Besides SSP Chan's briefing on the Programme, a number of guest speakers, including Kwun Tong Deputy District Commander Kevin Laurie, New Territories South Police Tactical Unit "A" Company Commander Dominique Ziemann, Hung Hom Divisional Commander Danny Lawley, and Hung Hom Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) Kevin Fung, shared with the audience their ideas and approaches in planning implementation of the Programme at Formation level.

More details about the Programme are available at the P Wing Website under HR R Div.
