Accompanied by Superintendent Yvonne Lo of Recruitment Division, 17 Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) Mentors and 37 PMP Mentees visited Marine Headquarters on October 14. At the Marine HQs, the Mentees took a comprehensive look at the diverse work of Marine Region. After a brief introduction on the history and command structure of the Region, they were taken on board Police Launch No 3 for a tour across the Victoria Harbour and introduced to a variety of equipment and the basics of marine navigation. The police launch then proceeded to Junk Bay for the highlight of the day - a demonstration of high speed interception of fast moving target. The Mentees later chatted with officers from Small Boat Division about their work after returning to Marine HQs. "It's a fantastic opportunity for us to board a police launch and visit the work and rest places of the Marine Police, enhancing our understanding of their work. When we first board the launch, we cannot immediately adapt to the rolling and hence have to hold one another' hands, during which I can truly feel the team spirit among the Mentors and Mentees. Then, when we see the high speed interception by the Small Boat Division, we are so excited and keep clapping our hands. After this visit, I understand more about the importance and challenges of marine policing," said one of the Mentees. A mentor echoed, "When the Mentees visit the Marine HQs and see the high speed interception of fast moving target, they curiously ask questions and excitingly clap their hands, demonstrating their youthful and energetic personality. Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to assist the students of my Alma Mater and has projected a very positive image of the Force to the Mentees." At the tea reception after the sea tour, SP Lo expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Marine HQs staff for arranging the visit which was organised by Recruitment Division, Personnel Wing as part of the 2006/07 PMP with a view to enhancing the Mentees' understanding of and interest in police work.
