Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai attended Ramadan dinner (also known as Iftar) at the Kowloon Mosque in Tsim Sha Tsui last month as a guest of honour, when he was greeted by a warm welcome.

District Commander Yau Tsim District Kevin Woods and key personnel of Yau Tsim District also attended Iftar to strengthen ties with their neighbour. Other guests included the Secretary of Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, and several Consuls-General based in Hong Kong, including the UAE, Kuwait, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, apart from representatives from various Muslim organisations.

Iftar refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar. The most prominent event of this month is the fasting practised by all observant Muslims. Iftar during Ramadan is often done as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together. Traditionally, a date is the first thing to consume during Iftar when the fast is broken.
