Marine Region cares for NEC communities | |||
Marine Region showed its care for the non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) communities when it played host on November 11 to the Boy Scouts of America Pack 1 of the Hong Kong International School, who are NEC students. The visit to Marine Region Headquarters by the NEC Boy Scouts is a further example of the Region's continuous effort to show its professional services and pledges of striving for progress to civic associations, schools and uniformed youth corps through their visits to its facilities and formations. In arranging officers to take care of such visits, the Region hopes to cultivate among its officers a culture of caring for different communities. Officers who guided such tours were given a chance to interact with the visitors and better appreciate during the process the essence of the Force's motto of "We Serve with Pride and Care". At the end of the day, what the Region expects of its officers is providing professional services with a caring touch. To conduct the Boy Scouts' tour in English, the Region's Administration Bureau arranged all the logistics and selected seven Police Constables, both male and female, who are candidates for the "Development Programme for Junior Officers with Potential", to act as tour guides. In hosting the visitors, these JPOs were delighted at having an opportunity to build up their self-confidence and put their potentials to good use. During the tour, Marine officers actively interacted with the NEC visitors and encouraged them to support and work with the police in combating crime, enabling the visitors to better appreciate the Force's efforts to promote harmony within the community and the work and purposes of the Marine Region. "It was a most educational and interesting day for the boys!" wrote Mrs Audrey Slighton, who was in charge of the Pack 1, in her letter of appreciation to the Region.
