Infectious disease control

As part of the Force's overall strategy to combat infectious diseases and to prepare Force members for any possible outbreak, Support Wing, in collaboration with the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, has arranged a series of training courses on control of infectious diseases for frontline officers.

Staff from the Centre for Health Protection delivered the training, which covered the general principles of protection against infectious diseases through observance of personal and environmental hygiene, as well as procedures for wearing personal protection gear.

To raise officers' awareness of prevention, the centre staff also illustrated with actual examples the general principles of protecting themselves against infectious diseases during their day-to-day work. Since 2005, 800 officers at various ranks have attended a total of five training sessions conducted by doctors and nurses of the centre.

Following the success of the training conducted in the past two years, Support Wing will continue to work closely with the Department of Health and other medical authorities to ensure that officers are adequately protected against any infectious disease through training, procurement of personal protective gear and guidelines on dealing with contagious diseases.

Officers may refer to the website on "Infectious Disease Guidelines" on POINT for more information.
