Sharing is good, but not always. Still remember what is information security? Let's do a recap.

Information is an asset to all individuals and organisations. Information Security refers to protection of information asset in the areas of confidentiality, integrity and availability.

We've discussed confidentiality and how you can protect your information asset. This time we move on to integrity.

Let's take the example of your password again. Are you using a password that is only known to you? Or are you using a default password or a weak password that can easily be guessed? Or, have you let others know your password?

By using the default password (one given to you when you are new to an information system), or a weak password (one that can be easily guessed), your password can easily be compromised. As a result, someone else can enter your system, manipulate your data or pretend to be yourself.

What are the possible consequences? Someone else can alter the important files in your computer by using your password. He or she can even send e-mails out using your identity.

The same can happen if you share your password with others. They may be somebody you trust, but they may not exercise sufficient protection to safeguard your password. Have you ever noticed a list of people's password being 'Posted-it' onto the monitor as shown in the picture?

It's time to change to a strong password only known to you!
