The Narcotics Bureau (NB) has smashed a major drug syndicate engaged in shipping cannabis into Hong Kong to meet local market demand, following the arrest of a 36-year-old man and seizure of 195 kilograms of cannabis in an operation on June 1.

Following an intensive investigation into a local drug trafficking syndicate, NB officers apprehended the man at an address in Tai Po and later seized 195 slabs of vacuum-packed cannabis herbs in a stone hut, each slab weighing one kilogram. The seizure could fetch some $10.1 million in the retail market.

The man has been charged with two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
