To promote ethnic harmony and help non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youths integrate into the local community, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) organised a two-day "Ethnic Integration Football Training Camp" for over 30 local and non-ethnic Chinese Junior Police Call (JPC) members on Cheung Chau in July.

Assisted by police volunteers and a Mentee of the Police Mentorship Programme, Alfred Wan from the City University of Hong Kong, the campers received training in team building, physical fitness and discipline, besides football. These activities also enabled them to know one another better and build up friendship.

On another occasion on August 6, Yau Tsim District Commander Chung Hung-fung led a party, comprising Chairman of the Yau Tsim District Fight Crime Committee, Mr Yip Wah, Chairman of the Yau Tsim Junior Police Call Honorary President Council and 30 JPC members, to pay a courtesy call at the Kowloon Mosque. The Chief Imam, Mr Muhammad Arshad, warmly welcomed the party and gave an informative presentation on the history and developments of Islam and the Kowloon Mosque. After this, Mr Arshad took his visitors on a guided tour of the Kowloon Mosque.

Besides being impressed by what they saw, the JPC members also gained an insight into the way of life of Muslims as well as their religion and culture.

YTDIST has spared no effort in promoting communication and understanding among all communities, and its summer programmes for JPC members would surely bring local and NEC youths closer together.
