Lok Ma Chau to bury Time Capsule

A Time Capsule containing snapshots of the current environment will be buried on September 7 in the grounds of the Lok Ma Chau Police Station. It is intended that the Time Capsule will be opened in 2015 to mark the 100th anniversary of Lok Ma Chau Police Station's construction. It is expected that by then both serving and retired officers will gather together again at the station to commemorate the anniversary and recall their days working in the Lok Ma Chau Division (LMC DIV).

The LMC DIV is one of the three divisions in the Border District. The LMC Police Station was built in 1915 to replace the original police station known then as San Tin Police Station (constructed circa 1899). In view of its historical and architectural merits, the Antiquities Advisory Board rated the LMC Police Station as a Grade III historical building in 1988.

The LMC Police Station serves as part of the border defence system to combat illegal immigration and other cross boundary criminal activities. The Lok Ma Chau Control Point is one of the six land Control Points at the Hong Kong / Shenzhen boundary. In recent years, the LMC DIV has been heavily involved in maintaining smooth passenger and vehicular traffic between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

The KCRC Spur Line extension started operation on August 15 and it is anticipated that this will herald major changes in the environment involving increased population and workload.

The station has been rated as a historical building
