T HKI promotes safe police driving |

The Road Safety Office of Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI) conducted two briefing sessions at POC last month to promote safe driving among police officers attached to Hong Kong Island, and to heighten their awareness of occupational safety and health. The sessions followed a "Traffic Accident Analysis regarding Police - On cases", which was conducted by the Special Investigation Team of T HKI's Accident Investigation Division, on the instructions by Senior Superintendent (T HKI) Chiu Kai-ting. The analysis covered in detail, among other things, the causes, time, date and location and whether the police officers involved were at fault. Attending the "Experience Sharing on Police Driving Safety" sessions were over 50 police drivers and non-cadre police officers from Regional Crime Unit, Emergency Unit and the four Districts of Hong Kong Island Region. During the briefing sessions, Mr Chiu and Superintendent (Enforcement & Control) Chan Fung-hau outlined the latest Police-on traffic accidents situation, and emphasised that the sessions were essentially an experience-sharing exercise because the attendants were already very experienced police drivers. They also encouraged the attendants to explore the ways of heightening police drivers' road safety awareness, and to bring safety messages to their colleagues. Mr Chiu reckoned that the briefing sessions had achieved their intended purposes and is hopeful of seeing a reduction in police-on traffic accidents as a result.
