Each year on New Year's Day the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union hosts a prestigious tournament at the Hong Kong Football Club for young people. The highlight of the day is three games where the Hong Kong team plays a Hong Kong overseas students team in the under 20 (born in 1988 & 89), under 18 (born in 1990 & 91) and under 16 (born in 1992 & 93) groups.
Selection and training will take place this month when the children return to Hong Kong from overseas for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Any officer, who has a rugby-playing son returning for the holidays and who wants more information, may contact Assistant District Commander (Crime) of Sham Shui Po District, Mr Steve Tarrant, at stevetarrant@police.gov.hk. Mr Tarrant, who is the Tournament Director for the New Year's Day Rugby Tournament, said it would be a good opportunity for officers to introduce their children to the local rugby scene, and to watch their kids play on the pitch. "It's also a good healthy activity for the kids!" he added.
