Over 600 athletes from various formations in Kowloon West (KW) Region took part in the Region's annual Sports Day held on November 9 at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, vying for 24 trophies for 11 individual events. It was a sports meet with a difference - held in support of the "Integrated Approach to Physical Fitness and Health Management".

Ushered in by the magnificent music from the Police Silver Band, KW Regional Commander Lo Yik-kee, Deputy Commander Lo Wai-chung and other senior commanding officers set off the ceremonial gun to kick off the sports gala. The Region's biggest internal communication day was also graced by the presence of Deputy Commissioner (Management) Fung Siu-yuen and Director (Operations) Tsang Wai-hung at the prize presentation ceremony.

To support the Force's "Integrated Approach to Physical Fitness and Health Management", the organising committee also arranged for eight Police clubs from different interest areas, namely Dragon Boat Club, Sailing Club, Handicraft Club, Painting & Calligraphy Club, Sub-Aqua Club, Lawn Bowls Club, Police History Club and Adventure Club, to set up booths at the venue to promote healthy lifestyle and recruit members. In addition, the Hong Kong Red Cross and Department of Health were on hand to offer health check-up, consultation services and tips on healthy diets. Attendants not only received a dose of therapeutic advice about their own body conditions, but also had a lot of fun and thrill.

Following successive rounds of heated competition, Yau Tsim District and KW Emergency Unit captured the Victor's Cup and Debbie's Cup respectively in exactly the same grandeur last year. The day reached a climax when the cheering teams from various formations clamoured to support their fellow sportsmen. Eventually the outstanding efforts of the team from KW Regional Headquarters were rewarded with the Cheers Group Trophy.
