Eight officers have been presented with Gold Award Certificates and another 32 officers with Letters of Appreciation for their contributions to the Police Staff Suggestions Scheme. In addition, one of the Gold Award Certificate recipients has also received a cash prize of $1,000.

The prizes were presented at a ceremony held at Arsenal House Multi-purpose Hall on November 27 by Director of Management Services Mike Dowie, Assistant Commissioner (Support) Blaine Hoggard, Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Ma Wai-luk, Police Civil Secretary Pang King-leung and Acting Hong Kong Island Regional Commander John Bicknell.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Dowie said that since its inception in 1994, the suggestion scheme had received wide and enthusiastic support, with more than 5,000 suggestions received over the past 13 years, including over 400 submissions received this year.

"I'm extremely impressed with colleagues' innovation and the efforts they put into their submissions. They are all committed to improving the way we do things," he noted.

"Each year there are a few exciting suggestions which demonstrate deep thought about the practical issues faced by frontline staff. It is vital for staff to have a direct channel to make suggestions," he added.

Mr Dowie pointed out that the Police Staff Suggestions Committee selected the award winners after careful scrutiny and deliberation. In doing so, the committee considered factors such as originality, enhancement of operational efficiency, better utilisation of resources and effort put into a suggestion.

Mr Dowie congratulated the award recipients on their achievement and encouraged them to continue contributing to the scheme. He also thanked members of the committee for making the scheme so successful.
