Big turnout at Swimming Gala

With the leadership, participation and support by 15 directorate officers to promote the "One Officer One Sport" initiative, the Police Annual Swimming Gala 2007 saw a bigger turnout of officers - 351 officers compared with last year's 280. At the same time, the competition also saw a big jump in contestants' performances with 13 records rewritten in the presence of the guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Fung Siu-yuen.

The highlight of the swimming gala was the 2 X 50M Directorate Relay, with the team made up of Assistant Commissioner Lau Chi-keung and Chief Superintendent David Gunton pulling off the Champion trophy, followed by the team comprising Assistant Commissioner Wong Fook-chuen and Chief Superintendent Suen Kwai-leung as first runner-up and Chief Superintendent Lo Wai-chung and Police Civil Secretary Pang King-leung as second runner-up.

After a day's tough competition, Kowloon City District carried off the Men Overall Championship whilst Marine Region captured the title of Women Overall Championship. At the same time, Commercial Crime Bureau and New Territories South Regional Headquarters won the titles of the Best Participating Formation and the Best Cheering Team respectively.

In individual events, the Man Individual Championship went to Police Constable Chan Way-kin from Kowloon City District, who broke the records of 50M Freestyle and 100M Freestyle. Woman Police Constable Tu Pui-yee from Marine Region also broke the records of 50M Backstroke and 100M Freestyle in winning the Woman Individual Championship.
