The Hong Kong Jockey Club is grateful to Wan Chai District for dealing with harassment of its betting centres. To express their gratitude, a representative of the Jockey Club called at Wan Chai Police Station last month to present a banner, silver plate and letter of compliments to former Wan Chai District Commander John Cox, Assistant District Commander (Crime) Peter Mounsey, and officers of the Wan Chai District Anti-triad Squad for their excellent performances.

Mid-last year, the Squad received a number of complaints from the Jockey Club about thugs maliciously causing troubles, breaking peace, threatening staff and even making extortions in the off-course betting centres in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. They usually managed to take off before the police raced to the scenes. After collecting intelligence and mounting swift operations, the Squad eventually apprehended the thugs and brought them to justice.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Jockey Club representative praised officers of Wan Chai District for the efforts and exceptional performances they displayed in their operations. He also pledged his Club's continued support and co-operation for the Force in fighting crime.

In reply, Mr Cox stressed that all officers of Wan Chai District would continue to demonstrate their professionalism and team spirit, enhance communications with the community, and strive for public support to make Hong Kong remain one of the safest and most stable cities in the world.
