Peter, Paul to run for charity again

Senior Superintendent Peter Barnes and Chief Inspector Paul Keylock hope to raise more funds for the charitable organisation, Watchdog Early Learning and Development Centre, in Central.

Watchdog is dedicated to teaching and training children who have special needs, such as those with Down's syndrome, language disorder, autism and cerebral palsy. Peter and Paul have been staunch supporters of Watchdog for many years, and have raised several million dollars for providing better care for those children.

This time, Peter and Paul plans to take part in the 56-km 2 Oceans Ultra Marathon in Cape Town in April, next year to raise $1 million for refurbishing another Watchdog premises located in the Union Church in Yau Ma Tei. The refurbishment will enable 60 children on waiting list to receive special education and care.

Like their previous fund-raising bids, Peter and Paul require the support of their colleagues for their latest efforts. They have made a good start, having raised $170,000 to date. Donations so far have come from Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, all Senior Directorate Grade Officers, RC Marine and her officers plus former Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai, but this is still a long way from the $1 million-target.

Those wishing to sponsor the charity run may make out cheques payable to "Watchdog Limited", and send them to Paul, who can be contacted on 2329-3015.

OffBeat will update readers in due course on the progress of the officers' preparations for the Cape Town marathon.
