The heads of the crime investigation units of Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macao held the 14th tripartite meeting in PHQ on April 24 with a view to combating cross-boundary crime and improving the law and order situations in the three places. Led by Acting Commissioner Yam Tat-wing, representatives from the Force met their Guangdong and Macao counterparts at the Police Headquarters.

The Guangdong delegation was led by the Deputy Director General of Guangdong Public Security Department, Mr Zheng Dong, while the Macao delegation was headed by the Commissioner General of Unitary Police Service, Mr Jose Proenca Branco.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr Yam said law enforcers from the three places had discussed the latest situation and issues that were commonly encountered in tripartite co-operation in crime investigation and the strategies concerned.

"We had in-depth exchanges on the latest trend of cross-boundary crimes, their modus operandi, our strategies and objectives to combat these crimes," Mr Yam added.

He also stressed that the meeting had thorough discussion on joint operations against cross-boundary crimes and tripartite exchange of intelligence and co-operation in crime investigation.

"We also review, among other things, our detective training, exchanges and reciprocal visits in the three places. Finally, we have a very good experience sharing and intelligence exchange on the upcoming Olympic Torch Relay," he said.

Mr Yam said the meeting had achieved fruitful results. Over the years, many serious and organised crimes were successfully detected and this demonstrated that the close liaison among the crime investigation units of the three places had positive impact on combating cross-boundary crimes.
