The prize presentation ceremony of the logo design competition of the Police College's Volunteer Team (The Learning Heart) was held at the college on April 18, with College Director Cheuk Chun-yin and other college staff attending.

The logo design competition was held in late 2007 with the great support of all college staff. Mr Cheuk and his Centre Heads formed an adjudication panel to pick three top winners.

At the presentation ceremony, Mr Cheuk presented prizes to the winner, Senior Police Constable Lo Yuk-chiu from the Weapons Training Division, as well as appreciation letters to other participants of the competition.

Since coming into being in 2006, the Police College Volunteer Team has taken part in numerous major volunteer service projects such as the Wai Chi Christian Services' Sport Day for mentally retarded people in 2006, World Vision Famine 30 (2007) and Oxfam Trailwalker in 2007. The team also braced winds and rains to join the Famine 30 (2008) held at the Aberdeen Sports Ground.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Cheuk praised members of the volunteer team for not only organising their own volunteer services, but also actively supporting other similar services. Noting that the Force had won the Hong Kong Council of Social Services' Caring Organisation Award for three consecutive years from 2005 to 2008, as well as the Gold Award (for service hours and size of team) of the Civil Service Volunteers Scheme, he encouraged Force members to continue to actively engage in community services in order to have a greater interface with the general public and to serve the under-privileged.

Mr Cheuk added that the logo design competition would spur more Force officers to take part in volunteer services, contributing to fostering a closer police and public relationship.

Speaking on the same occasion, the convenor of the volunteer team, Chief Inspector Chan Wing-leung, from the Weapons Training Division, thanked senior staff of the Police College for their donations to help the team meet its expenditures. He pledged to work closely with the Secretariat of the Hong Kong Police Volunteer Service Corps to maximise resources for organising volunteer services.
