Twelve Junior Police Officers (JPOs) pursuing lifelong learning in their free time have obtained a bachelor degree from the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in the USA.

The officers are Sergeant Cheung Kim-fung, and PCs Lau Yuk-fai, Lui Wing-hing, Lau Chi-chung, Wong Chung-yin, Wong Po-chun, Chan Cho-kin, Tsoi Yiu-chung, Wong Kam-wai, Chan Wai-tak, Chan Man-ting and Cheung Po-chi.

Considering good management skills very important for their jobs, the officers began studying the Business Administration programme at the UMT in 2006. The UMT allows students to pursue higher academic qualifications through alternative learning environments.

"The programme meets the needs of today's busy students. It is flexible, delivered through new and innovative technologies, and allows students to achieve their educational goals outside a traditional classroom setting," said SGT Cheung.

All the 12 officers say they enjoy lifelong learning because they can prepare themselves for the dynamic changes in the law enforcement work in Hong Kong. Lifelong learning also enables them to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment and the ever-increasing demands of the public they serve. They also have had an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with fellow students from different trades.

At the Graduation Ceremony held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University earlier, SGT Cheung had the honour of giving a speech as the Graduate Representative on the stage in the presence of the UMT President.
