Force members have contributed over $1.2 million during a Force-wide collection of voluntary donations, conducted in February and March this year in response to the Hong Kong Red Cross' campaign to assist victims of the recent snowstorms across the Mainland.

The snowstorms had severely disrupted the livelihood of people across 21 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Apart from claiming 107 lives, the disaster had also affected a population in excess of 160 million, with more than 350,000 reports of collapsed houses and 11.8 million hectares of farmland damaged.

Commissioner Tang King-shing presented a cheque for $1,281,207 to Sir T L Yang, Chairman of the Hong Kong Red Cross, at the Red Cross Headquarters on April 15. The Red Cross was most appreciative of the Force's donation as well as the voluntary assistance rendered by Force members during the disaster.

The senior Force Management takes this opportunity to thank the Police Credit Union, Formations, staff associations, sports and arts clubs, and all disciplined, civilian and auxiliary staff for their voluntary assistance and generous donations to a worthwhile cause.
