Training on attending promotion interview

Candidates attending an interview are often asked to introduce themselves by the interview board. On the other hand, many officers are asking: "How can we equip ourselves for the Potential Officers (PO) Scheme. In view of these, the Police English Club (PEC) recently ran an experience-sharing programme for 20 officers with potentials for inspectorate rank.

The programme was conducted in two sessions over two days: interactive experience-sharing by newly promoted Inspectorate Officers and an exercise for the participants to hone their skills of attending an interview.

In the first session, three Inspectorate Officers of direct or Force entries shared their experiences of passing the interviews for Inspectorate Officers, gaining the participants' great appreciation.

During a mock interview conducted in the second session, the participants practised their skills of introducing themselves before the interview board, giving impromptu talks and presentations, and conducting group discussions. Chief Inspector Steven Berry, Woman Senior Inspector Maxim Kwok, both from the Commercial Crime Bureau, and Chief Inspector Wyman Lee, Chairman of the PEC, acted as members of the mock interview board to assess the performances of the "candidates", and to conduct a wash-up.

For the participants, the training programme has not only brushed up their skills of communicating in English and attending an interview, but also enabled them to come to know officers from different units.

"It was one of the most well-prepared courses I have ever attended. After the course I picked up my confidence again!" said one of the participants. Another participant remarked: "There was a lot of fun and I made many new friends. I'm looking forward to more similar courses by the Police English Club."
