International Museum Day carnival

The "International Museum Day 2008, Hong Kong", which comprised a two-day carnival "Museum Panorama" and a variety of activities, opened at the Hong Kong Museum of Art on May 17.

Officiating at the opening ceremony were the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Yau; the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, Mr Long Jiayou; the Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture Heritage, Ms Yu Ping; the Chief of the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Mr Tao Cheng, and the representative of the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Chan Ieng-hin, who is also the Director of the Macao Museum.

Director of Personnel and Training Tang Hau-sing, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Force Museum Advisory Committee, attended the ceremony as a representative of the Force.

The "International Museum Day 2008, Hong Kong" is organised in support of the designation of May 18 as International Museum Day by the International Council of Museums in 1978 to stimulate public awareness of the role that museums play in society. Participating in the event were 28 institutions, including the Police Museum.
