Force enjoys international repute

Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, inspecting a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College on June 21, said the Force was of international repute and widely recognised as a professional, committed and efficient disciplined service.

"Whatever the challenges or difficulties they face, our police officers always stand fast at their posts and display great team spirit, doing their utmost to maintain law and order and provide emergency support for the community.

"Over the years, Hong Kong has remained prosperous and stable, and has consistently been lauded as one of the safest international cities in the world. This achievement is due in no small part to the efforts made by all members of our Police Force. All the citizens of Hong Kong shall be grateful to our devoted Police Force," he said.

Mr Tsang encouraged the graduating officers to uphold the Force's fine tradition of enforcing the law in a fair and just manner, and face any difficulties and challenges with resolve, perseverance and courage.

"With the rapid development of our society, there are growing demands for police services and rising public expectations among members of the public.

"I am confident that all of you will apply with agility in your daily work what you have learned from your training, such as discipline, knowledge and skills, continually enrich your experience through your work, and become pillars of the Force one day," he told the graduating officers.

Saying that it was a great honour for the HKSAR to co-host the Olympic Equestrian Events, Mr Tsang hoped that all the graduating officers and members of the Force would work in concert with enthusiasm and pride to ensure that the major national event would be held successfully.

He added that he was confident all the Force members would once again showcase their capability of hosting international events and the high degree of professionalism of the Police Force under the spotlight of the international community.

On parade were 29 probationary inspectors and 205 recruit constables.
