The computer-based training system, "Scenario-based Interactive Multi-player Simulation (SIMS)" developed by the Police College, has won another two training awards. The awards are the "Excellence in Practice Citation Award" organised by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the "Most Innovative Award" organised by the Hong Kong Management Association. Senior Force Training Officer Vincent Yeung and Chief Inspector (Learning Technologies) Andy Yip of the Police College received the ASTD award last month in San Diego, USA. "We are delighted that SIMS has won these two awards. Since its inception in 2006, SIMS has won a total of five local and international awards in the training and information technology field. Such recognition proves that the Force's learning technology is on a par with international standards. We will not rest on our laurels and will continue striving to professionalise the Force's training and to support the Police College to develop into one of the world's centres of excellence in police training and development," said Mr Yeung. SIMS is a learning technology system developed in-house by the Police College. It optimises network and web technology to simulate a real-life situation and to facilitate scenario-based training for multiple players at different locations. SIMS has been used for in the Command Courses since November 2006. To maximise the returns on development, the Police College will conduct briefing to other training units in the Force to promote wider use of SIMS.
