FBINA Retraining Conference

Superintendent (Operations) Crime Hong Kong Island, Mr Karl Spencer, a graduate of the FBI National Academy (FBINA), recently attended the 2008 FBI National Academy Retraining Conference for Asia Pacific, held at the beach resort of Nusa Dua in Bali.

Hosted by the Indonesian National Police and the FBI, the conference attracted delegates from 12 Asia Pacific countries, namely, Australia, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and East Timor.

Amongst the top brass at the conference were Mr Thomas Fuentes, Assistant Director of the FBI; General Sutanto, Chief of the Indonesian National Police; Mr Robert Atkinson, Commissioner of Police of Queensland; Mr Ross Barnett and Mr Brett Pointing, Assistant Commissioners of Police of Queensland; Mr Shahbudin bin Abdul Wahab, Senior Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Malaysian Police; Mr Ahmed Faseeh and Mr Abdullah Riyaz, Assistant Commissioners of the Royal Malaysian Police, and Mr Supawot Sung-Ong, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police.

The theme of the conference was "Combatting Transnational Crime" and lectures were delivered on terrorism, cyber crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, police management, as well as co-operation and intelligence sharing.

The conference was a huge success and has undoubtedly enhanced friendship and co-operation amongst the law enforcement officers from the Asia Pacific region, especially in combatting transnational crime.

The 2009 Retraining Conference will be held at the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between August 9 and 13, next year, and will give all FBI National Academy graduates something to look forward to.
