Commissioner Tang King-shing spoke of the steps taken to maintain a high level of safety on the streets of Hong Kong when he gave a lunchtime address to the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) at the China Club recently.

He was addressing an international gathering, with the citizens of many nations joining local people to hear his talk. The ROSL is a pan-Commonwealth non-governmental organisation.

The head of the British Chamber of Commerce, Brigadier Christopher Hammerbeck, introduced the CP's talk. The Saudi Arabian Consul-General, Ambassador Alaudeen, proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the talk. The new Singapore Consul-General to Hong Kong was also present.

At question time, many of the lunch guests paid tribute to the Force for keeping Hong Kong one of the safest cities in the world.

ROSL Branch President Paul Surtees thanked CP for his speech. He also expressed ROSL's warm thanks to CP and staff of the Police College at Aberdeen.

Twice in recent years, ROSL had arranged special visits to the college by blind people, together with their families. Mr Surtees paid tribute to the staff of the college for making excellent arrangements to provide interesting and enjoyable tours for members of the Hong Kong Federation of the Blind.
