The Human Resources Branch of Personnel Wing conducted a seminar in the PHQ Auditorium on October 10, with a view to introducing details of the Development Programme for Junior Officers with Potential to Regional Coordinators, mentors, mentees and all other interested officers. The seminar also provided the participants, totalling about 250, with a better understanding of "Mentoring and Coaching Skills", which played a key role in the programme.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Acting Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung highlighted the prospects of Junior Police Officers (JPOs) advancing to the Inspectorate. He hoped that as a result of the development opportunities provided by the programme, officers would be better equipped for career advancement.

Superintendent (JPO) Tang Kay-hon then went on to explain the features of the programme and promote the importance of active participation in various development activities.

Also speaking at the seminar was Mr Andy Lau, Senior Training Officer from the Civil Service Training and Development Institute. He gave a very useful and lively talk on "Mentoring and Coaching Skills". The seminar was well received by the audience, who learned a lot from the wisdom of Mr Lau's interesting analogies and inspiring games.

For programme details, refer to FPM 5-22. The subject of "Mentoring and Coaching Skills" in the form of a PowerPoint presentation has been uploaded to the JPODIV homepage on POINT for the reference of all interested officers.

Mentoring is very important for JPOs
